Recently I moved our IPL machine into our pedi and mani area.  It was to make it easy to move it in and out of our beauty rooms.  I decided to pop a little sign on it saying IPL Hair Removal.

And wow did everyone ask what that was. 

It seems even though we had offered it for a while we had not really explained what it is and why it is a good thing. 

So let me share that with you now.  It's something that has made a big  difference in my own personal grooming routine and it could be great for you too. 

It's Intense Pulsed Light Hair Removal

IPL hair removal is a fantastic technology that uses gentle pulses of light to target the pigment in hair follicles.  It uses that pigment to guide the light so it can do a tiny bit of damage to the hair follicle so it no longer grows. 

It's a safe and effective method for removing and reducing unwanted hair, and here are some of its key benefits:

Long-lasting Results: IPL can significantly reduce hair growth over time. With regular sessions, most people experience long-lasting hair reduction.

Suitable for Various Areas: Whether it's your legs, underarms, bikini line, or face, IPL can safely be used on different parts of the body.

Gentle on the Skin: Unlike traditional methods like waxing or shaving, IPL is gentle on the skin and typically causes minimal discomfort.  There may be a slight warm feeling but certainly it is not painful.

Speed: IPL and SHR (which is a super fast version of IPL) appointments are so quick that you may even feel "was that it?"  The light just need to flash the follicle and the job is down.  IPL is a stamp like motion with the machines hand piece while SHR is a smooth continuous motion over the area.    

Exactly How Does It Work?

IPL works by emitting pulses of light that are absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle. This light energy converts to heat, which then damages the hair follicle and inhibits future hair growth. Over time and with regular sessions, hair becomes finer and lighter, and growth is significantly reduced.  Some hair follicles do not regrow from the first treatment.  Other follicles may not have a hair in them at the time of treatment so will me treated at future appointments.  This is why we do a series of treatments to get all the hair.
